The Vayosanthwanam scheme is a new initiative by the Department of Social Justice to provide grant to NGOs for the care and rehabilitation of destitute, bedridden elderly individuals who have no one to look after. The scheme aims to address the growing issue of elderly individuals being abandoned, particularly those with no one to care for them after hospital treatment. The scheme ensures free food, medicine, and palliative care for the residents. The care centers are required to have facilities tailored for bedridden patients. The State government will provide grant upto 80 percent and the remaning 20 percent will have to be borne by the NGOs themselves.
