Kerala State Elderly Commission


The Kerala State Elderly Commission has been constituted in the State with the primary objective of protecting, supporting and safeguarding the rights and interests of the Senior citizens in Kerala. Kerala is the first State in India to establish an Elderly commission which will actively address the challenges faced by the elderly population, such as neglect, exploitation, and abandonment. The Commission will function as a quasi-judicial body, with the authority to issue guidelines and recommendations for the welfare and safety of senior citizens.

The Commission’s headquarters situated in Thiruvananthapuram district will have a Chairperson and four members. The term of office of the Chairperson and the members shall be three years from the date on which they assume office. The Commssion will facilitate rehabilitation in coordination with the government and offer legal aid as and when required. The recommendations of the commission will be forwarded to the government for necessary intervention and dispute resolution.
