Parents/Guardians of severely mentally challenged/MR and persons with physical disabilities require emotional strength and flexibility. Parents/guardians can find themselves overwhelmed by various medical, caregiving and financial responsibilities. Persons who are Mentally challenged/MR or have severe physical disabilties always need special care and attention since they cannot perform their day to day activities without someone else’s assistance. Sometimes it can be quite challenging for parents/guardians in BPL families, who have to take care of household tasks and work apart from taking care of MR persons.
Social Justice Department has devised an innovative scheme called “Swasraya” which provides self-employment assistance to such Parents (Mother/Father/Guradians) or those who are who are unable to earn a livelihood due to their disability. An amount of Rs 35,000/- is being provided to the beneficiaries as one time assistance.
Eligibility criteria:-
1) Applicant must be from BPL family.
2) Differently abled persons who need full time assistance of care provider, Mother/Father/Immediate relatives who provide support for PwD persons who have 50% or more disability are eligible for one time self-employment assistance under this scheme.
3) Assistance will be given to Mother/Father/Immediate relative if the family consists of more than one Person with disability (any one of the child must have 40% or more disability)
4) The mother of persons with disabilities whose husbands are unable to earn a livelihood due to their physical/mental constrains are also eligible for benefit under this scheme.
5) Those persons who are unable to earn a livelihood due to their disability are also eligible under this scheme.
